Ballet Evolution's Board of Directors

John Hurshman

John Hurshman spent his entire 40+ year career in management of manufacturing operations, including strategy development, business planning, operations management and finance and control. He has worked “on both sides of the desk” as a member of management or as a consultant, and he has worked with businesses ranging from small privately owned companies to Fortune 500 businesses. In 1995, John was asked to conduct the turnaround of a U.S. manufacturing company that served the U.S. power industry. In 1999, after returning the company to profitability, John and three members of his management team were successful in a management buyout of the company. During the next 12 years, the company grew to become one of the three largest manufacturers in its segment of the global power industry. In 2011, the company was sold to a German private equity group, and John retired from his business career.

John and his wife, Penny, have been residents of Charleston County since 1999, and residents of downtown Charleston for the past 10 years. They have been active supporters of the arts since arriving in South Carolina, and are especially devoted to dance. They also enjoy boating, and spend much of the summer cruising their boat in New England waters.
